This is the first time Cathy Corison’s wines have been in the State of Maine. A big THANK YOU goes out to the team at Easterly Wines for helping us make that happen, by working with Cathy and her team to broker and agreement.
One of the 2023 Top 100 Wineries in the world by Wine & Spirits Magazine! Winemaker Cathy Corison fell in love with wine over 45 years ago when she spontaneously decided to take a wine course at Pomona College. A biology major, she was fascinated by the interaction among living systems that resulted in wine, and after a master’s degree in Enology from UC Davis, she headed to Napa, where her winemaking positions included stints at Yverdon and Chappellet in the 1980s. In 1987 she began to purchase great cabernet sauvignon grapes from prime vineyards between Rutherford and St. Helena, using space in others’ wineries to make the wine she had always meant to make. In 1995 she and her husband and partner William Martin purchased Kronos Vineyard, a property that had been a farm for over a century, and Corison Winery finally became a true estate vineyard. Three decades later, Corison Winery holds a well-deserved reputation for producing some of the best cabernet sauvignons that represent the heart of the iconic Napa Valley.
Her 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is intensely complex and brooding, with a mantle of savory nuances of cedar, clove, and delicate salinity over a deep core of dark black fruit. Classic Napa structure is deftly balanced by an undercurrent of signature Corison acidity, giving lift and cut to the mouth coating richness. This wine will easily cellar for 10-20 years. And it should. The optimal drinking window is 2029–2039.

Critical Acclaim for the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon
96 points - Wine Enthusiast
Savory and complicated in saline, woody notes of cedar and dry tannin, this old-school wine is dark and structured, aged 20 months in French oak, half of it new. Brooding black fruit and clove give it an edgy richness that is restrained and balanced by underlying acidity.
96 points - Wine & Spirits Magazine
This wine is, in fact, an idealized version of her benchland cabernet sauvignon, holding on to the elegance she regularly achieves, while adding a luscious textural beauty that more often comes from bottle age. Warm and explosive in its energy, this wine carries an imprint of the benchland soils in the play of darkness and light, in the detailed tannins that make you crave another taste.
